Disparities in Cardiovascular Care
Part of a 5-part Safe Table Series
The Garden State Patient Safety Center, a federally certified Patient Safety Organization (PSO), recognized that finding robust answers and strategies to address complex clinical issues can sometimes be challenging. PSO Safe Tables are forums where healthcare professionals can discuss patient safety experiences, share best practices, and learn from experts and each other. The setting provides a safe, confidential environment that allows healthcare professionals to discuss challenges with the goal of improving quality and ensuring safe patient care.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the prevalence of hypertensive disorders in pregnancy affects at least 1 in 7 delivery hospitalizations. About a third of those who died during a hospital delivery had a hypertensive disorder of pregnancy documented. This equates to more than 1 in 5 delivery hospitalizations of Black women and about 1 in 6 delivery hospitalizations of American Indian and Alaska Native women. Severe complications and deaths are preventable with equitable implementation of public health and clinical strategies.
Esteemed faculty Karen Florio, DO, MPH, will facilitate this important series, engaging members in discussions to help move forward improved outcomes for mothers and their babies.
